Liz Lochhead, the Makar, the poet for centuries for all the people of Scotland, has recently joined the SNP. This political party not only represents a minority of the people of Scotland but also does not tolerate any dissent from Party policy (see its Code of Conduct, 2.2). Her membership of that Party becomes for these reasons incompatible with her role as national poet for all. I respectfully call on all Scots, at home or abroad,who find the Makar's position untenable, to sign this Petition which calls for her immediate resignation.
