FoodOnCampus (FoC) are proposing to close the Byte Cafe because they consider it financially un-sustainable. The closure would result in Wendy being moved or made redundant.

Please sign this petition if you do not want to lose either Wendy OR the Byte cafe. By signing this petition you are making it clear to FoC decision makers that you DO NOT WANT:

  1. Wendy to be moved to another outlet or made redundant. She is the heart and soul of the Kilburn Building who routinely goes above and beyond her duties to provide friendly and personal service to students and staff alike in our community.
  2. The Byte cafe to close down. If the Byte cafe closes, the closest place to buy food and drink will be across Oxford Road on University Green

Just lower the prices in byte cafe and more people will buy. Or at least try and see what is going to happen. You need to have an analog of the meal deals both in quantity and quality, to Morrisons. For 3 pounds in Byte Cafe you get a sandwich with 2 ingredients... doesn't work like that.

The Byte Cafe is the only cafe in Kilburn building. It's the place we meet our colleagues and students. It's the place we can relax and enjoy our coffee. The university should not be profit driven and closing the Byte Cafe means we are going to lose our community and our sense of place.

Wendy made my student days so much easier ! I wasn't much of a coffee person, but her cappuccino was the most delicious ever, as it was always spiced generously with great conversations and garnished with a dash of encouragement for anything I was planning for the day.

To me, the greatest value of Byté Cafe is as a social place. Everyone in the building can come here to relax and have a chat. It gives Kilburn a warm place away from computers and lectures. This cannot be replaced by more social events or Pret across the road.

Staff and students need facilities nearby to where they are being taught as it is not always possible to pop over over the road to grab food/drink in between class. Yes they maybe a little pricier than over the road but they do provide a very useful facility.

Oh no! As a PT student Wendy is a key person who made me feel welcome. Especially as the gaps between visits can be quite large! The cafe and Wendy are the central part of the hub of the building, it would be a big loss to change this!
