4 radical city commisioners DO NOT represent Traverse City. Sell the real estate and let the free market determine the destiny of the 8th street corridor. Do not give our city property away for $1. That is incredibly stupid and worth a RECALL.

The city commisioners have a duty to follow the Master Plan. The 8th street corridor is clearly marked for economic expansion. The historic Boardman neighborhood is notable as a quaint residential asset. The current proposal for a homeless shelter totally Collides with the goals of the master plan for this area. Period. The city commission must vote NO on giving away our city owned assets for an entire decade for a proposal which eradicates the principle vision in this downtown District. This is a ludicrous idea, a safety issue, a legal issue, a business killer, a residential area nightmare, and a drain on our resources. Be honest--does anyone believe this shelter could operate 90 beds with a volunteer staff indefinitely --with no emergencies, no extra funding, and no problems overall? Even a boutique hotel wouldn't function this solidly. Beware of what could happen for 10 years. This is a nightmare plan. This city commission needs to erase it from the agenda Now. And we obviously need a few new commissioners who can spend our funds and time both wisely and sanely.

i just read a comment on a travel site..."the worst streets in America". I think this commission has a real priority problem. Self centered agendas have become a cancer in Traverse City government. The issue of giving away our Fire Dept, is another example. Take care of our infrastructure first, or all we'll have is homeless tax payers. That's a real revenue generator.

Not the place for this shelter. I have compassion for our underprivledged, but putting a 90 bed facility on 8th Street in TC is not the answer to the homeless problem in our community. Please consider other alternatives.

I think there are already serious concerns regarding homeless folks loitering along the TART trail along Boardman Lake. I am a downtown resident that would like to enjoy using the trail more but have had run-ins that have made me uncomfortable to use the trail often. The concept of adding a large capacity shelter just adds to the number of homeless people concentrated in this particular area. I am for helping the homeless, but not in one large capacity shelter on Wellington Street.

see Oct.22New Yorker for short article on the way Housing First is working in places like Utah, Colorado...since 2005! Tried to have this included in commissioners packet and was told it would be left on their desks for Monday nights meeting...

What this city needs is more supported permanent housing. We do not need another shelter since we already have GWI . Those in power should hear our voices and fix this permanently .

Homeless shelter in Wellington will just be enabling the homeless population to continue their downward trend and multiply by passing the word that the Grand Traverse area has yet come up with another benefit for the homeless population. Further, but probably most important is that it puts many children in danger by providing shelter adjacent to a residential neighborhood.
