Age Appropriate Books for Westfield Washington Students

These books should be removed from the school library. Parents should be responsible for teaching these issues. They have absolutely no business being in an elementary school!

did you ever think about the possibility that some people don’t believe in god, or that it’s not absolutely horrible for your babies to learn about others and learn to accept them. it is not trash it is people’s lives that you are talking about. and the school system having these books available to your babies is not harming them it’s educating them to be good people.

they are not inappropriate they are educational, they teach children how to accept others and their differences in a way they would understand it.

how is educating young kids on the acceptance of other people and the way they choose to live their lives an “adult agenda”??

we go to school to learn a lot more than just reading, writing, and math. we go to school to learn about differences in people’s beliefs, cultures, and ideas, and we learn to accept them and to love them no matter what. as a westfield high school student it makes me sad to know the younger generations are going to be so misinformed about the way the world works.

those books are not “adult agendas” and these books help support the education that children need to receive in school about being accepted no matter what.

how is this material unacceptable? it teaches children about how others are different and that’s okay! it teaches them about sensitive topics in a way that they will understand!

it is so sad to see as a student of westfield high school that there is so much intolerance from westfield washington schools parents and staff. some may say that it is the parent’s job to educate their children on these subjects at home and while i agree that parents need to help educate it is not up to them 100% and the school system needs to show that they support these children as well. school is where we as children spend most of our time and where we are educated on just about everything and that includes topics discussed in those books.

If parents want their children to read these books they can purchase them or ask the public library to order them. They should not be in an elementary school library.

Parents always need to give approval for this type of information given to their minor children. keep the parent in control of their children’s education.

Kids shouldn’t be used as pawns for an adult agenda.

Absolutely a parents privilege to help our children navigate these issues, not by way of unsupervised library time.

I’m not OK with Westfield Schools allowing our children to read books that are NOT age appropriate books. Your job is to educate our kids on math, reading, science & writing. Not influence their minds in vulgar ways!

Hi, I’m Austin and Andrew Jarrett’s aunt. I agree that these books should not be easily shown or accessible to elementary kids.

This is a topic that should be tackled at home, not in schools. If a child is already struggling with gender identity issues, it’s the parents responsibility to create an open environment for the child to share their struggles, NOT the schools responsibility to comment on, especially without parent knowledge. If a child isn’t struggling with gender identity issues, books like these may just confuse them further and they could wrongfully attribute whatever their facing to something being wrong with their gender and nobody would stop them from believing this.

Please, please, please move these books to the counselor's office instead of making it publicly available in libraries.

Please have parental consent before allowing these books to be checked out.

Serves the purpose of the adult not the children.
