HB2439 is Detrimental to Texas Cities

Please don't pass this bill. It hurts our community.

Why? Why move backwards? This HB makes zero sense. The people creating this legislation clearly have no love for their cities.

We want heath, beautiful and safe communities. By restricting cities not to enforce or only ask for basics, developers will only do the minimum. Lets think of our future, not the present.

Quit taking Payoffs

Cities too often regulate what’s on homes in order to control who is in the homes and deny access to great schools and communities. All of this nonsense about local control, keep it unique, keep it country, is all code for keeping undesirable people out. These ordinances are another dark chapter in the history of exclusionary zoning that hopefully the Governor will soon relegate to the history books.

As a planner that has worked as city staff, land developer, and a municipal planning consultant I am completely opposed to this bill. This will be disastrous for not just the aesthetics of neighborhoods but will negatively impact property values all over Texas. Please veto this bill.

Please veto this bill. We love our community and want to have a say among what it looks like in the future.

This bill has the potential of being detrimental to our small town. The ability to control the design and appearance of our buildings to keep the look and feel of the town we have established should be a decision made at the local level and not mandated by the state. It is yet another over reach of unfunded mandates by this session of the legislature.

City leadership, elected by local residents, have a right to shape the character, appearance, and quality of life of their communities they represent. Veto HB2439, and help keep Texas towns and cities unique!

Our representatives of the community have adopted ordinances that ‘in consideration of the general welfare of the entire community’ that regulate exterior finishes in order to add value. That value can be generated from aesthetics or increased appraisals both of which may be factored when considering desirable markets.
