Cities are the cultural and architectural epicenters of our state. This has been achieved through almost two centuries of building fine grain urbanism consisting of many different styles and cultures each adding to the overall fabric of our cities. This fabric is what makes each city in Texas unique and gives pride to its citizens. To take away the self-governing right of cities to protect its fabric is to invite a monoculture of nowhere and potentially erase our history and lose our distinct identity of being Texan. In a state led by conservative values of self determination and small government this is an attack on those values and yet another example of big government telling the little guy what to do.

The City has a two-step process for approval of all building permits, with the Horseshoe Bay Architectural Control Committee reviewing and approving building materials, exterior colors and the design for all buildings which helps to maintain the quality of the buildings and the property values in the City. Please veto this bill so that we can continue providing our residents with quality buildings that maintain their property values.

Why are we giving away our sovereignty?! Why are we going to be satisfied to let a national standard dictate how we get to build here in Texas cities? Some organization other than Texas citizens will be in charge of new development in Texas. Veto this bill!

The HB2439 Bill should be vetoed because many of the city codes that are considered aesthetic regulations serve a duel purpose of promoting well-being and safety. Masonry requirements in particular can promote the creation of more secure and aesthetically pleasing buildings, which can have a lasting impact on the character of the area.

Stop this bill. Don't want my property values to decrease due to a metal building being placed next to my house. Builders don't have a problem with building to City standards and the homeowners appreciate the higher quality of homes which save them higher maintenance costs down the road.

This bill seems to have a reasonable goal of consistency, but it is misapplied and carried too far. The whole idea that federal minimums should be the Texas maximums does not advance quality of life in our cities.

Our cities need control over how we develop our neighborhoods, and zoning ordinances. This bill strips our ability to self-regulate the character and context of our communities.
