Ute Bridge Support Rally
Why do we need signatures?
We need your support to build excitement and momentum for solving the long-standing challenge at 500 South and Guardsman Way - the southern gateway to the University of Utah. By signing, you show support for making Ute Bridge a reality and send a clear message the University, to the City of Salt Lake, the State of Utah and the U Nation that this connection between south campus and main campus is not just a good idea - it’s essential.
Why Ute Bridge?
Unlike typical pedestrian overpasses, Ute Bridge engages all four corners equally, creating a balanced, iconic design of an intersection that sees over 25,000 daily trips. It goes beyond simply crossing the street by offering multiple functions: safe pedestrian access, quicker signal turns, a central gathering space, integrated traffic-control equipment rooms, personalizing by Utah fans and prominently displayed U history through its famous logos and 3d art.
The bridge allows diagonal or direct crossings with a creative pivot at its center. While primarily designed for pedestrians the ADA-accessible ramps, for bikes, scooters, and wheelchairs, form the Block U when viewed from above. An elevated, canopied platform provides a unique 360 degree view and a place to pause and gather. Red sandstone panels echo Rice-Eccles Stadium, and the iconic thumbs together ‘U’ hand gesture welcome visitors passing beneath.
If the University of Utah is committed to its identity as a pedestrian campus, Ute Bridge is the most elegant way to demonstrate it.
Sign on and let’s do it with style.
