This is a petition to lobby the three universities based on the Medway Campus at Chatham Maritime for a public access defibrillator to be installed in an accessible location on site.

Acting quickly when someone is in cardiac arrest and fighting for their life is crucially important.

The British Heart Foundation claim: Around 60,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in the UK every year. When someone goes into cardiac arrest, every minute without CPR and defibrillationreduces their chances of survival by 10%.

A defibrillator is a machine that delivers an electric shock to the heart when someone is having a cardiac arrest. These machines can also be called AEDs (automated external defibrillators).

We Believe that the; University of Greenwich, University of Kent and Canterbury Christchurch University should support the installation, upkeep and insurance of this vital, life saving device.

There's a multitude of students using the campus every day - wouldn't it be ideal to have a defibrillator as a safety precaution if one of those students need it if they went into cardiac arrest?

Early intervention with effective CPRand defibrillation increases a cardiac arrest massively, well worth getting this life saving piece of equipment!!!!

This seems like a very simple request ? When supermarkets have them ? They talk in medically trained people how to save a life in the event of a cardiac arrest :) I learnt what this machine does today ! And I believe very strongely there should be one at all universities and even schools , colleges ?

My partner had a heart attack... we know how vital difibrillators can be. Absolute must in my opinion, and it is a shame students have to resort to a petition to provide a vital piece of equipment!!!

Very important, all big public places should have one, especially with so many people around every day. We need better resources in Medway and this one is vital.

Its honestly shocking that we dont have one already. With that many people walking around daily it should be a standard safety requirement. Hope they listen to this.

I am a retired Kent Firefighter studying at UKC Canterbury. Staggered each campus site does not have one if not two or more defib's close to high risk areas i.e. playing fields, sport halls and estates department workshops etc. I would go a step further and suggest each campus should have a fully equipped and trained ambulance service approved community co-responder team with oxygen therapy, diabetic emergency kit and C-spine collars. With the number of students, academic staff, estate teams (using chainsaws and powered machinery) and building contractors working at height on the sites , it is not a question of if there is an emergency it is when. If you want advise contact me [email protected]
