Demand Professional Counseling Licenses be Awarded in 6 Weeks!

Please consider implementing this change for licenses to be awarded in 6 weeks. Waiting about 6 months to get your license affects people’s real lives because they frequently cannot be hired until their license has come through. Therefore people are struggling to fund themselves and their families until their license can be approved. It’s ridiculous that it takes so long especially when counseling is so desperately needed for so many. Please help us make this change!

7 months is too long, other’s shouldn’t have to wait that long!

Let’s get more licensed counselors in the community to help mentally ill people

I have been on hold with Texas Board of Counselor for more an 1 hour waiting to speak with a rep. about licensing questions. The process for obtaining a license is horrible and too long.

Being understaffed is a concern that can be addressed so as to better serve those who work hard to meet the requirements for licensing. The wait time for all things under license related affects people’s livelihood and job potential.

As a person about to take the LPC exam, I was horrified to learn it can take six months and longer to receive an LPC license. Please work on this most important matter!

Counselors have worked too long and hard, post-master degree, with undue financial hardships such as being underpaid or unpaid, as well as and having to pay for supervision even after applying for full licensure. We deserve to be able to make a living and get our license in a timely manner.

Counselors are in demand, get them licensed now!

It’s not the licensing unit nor the actual Board’s who’s at fault...follow the money! The Texas Board of Human Services committee allocate less than 500k to the licensing unit to operate...while they appear to pocket 1.5 mil!!!!...the “trickle down” result is overworked, stretched staff, disgruntled LPC applicants and the Texas client not getting served...like a previous poster stated, we all deserve better!!!

Let’s bring integrity back to our profession.

These unnecessary delays further exacerbate the issue of client access due to the growing shortage of mental health providers in Texas. These largely computerized checks and verifications can reasonably be expedited to a 6 week maximum waiting period. Texans deserve better.

Please fix this faulty system.

we are losing money and time!

This delay in licensure is preventing many hard working professionals from making a living and depriving many citizens of quality health care. It is unjust and needs to be changed!

This is our livelihood and the need is so great for our communities for mental health professionals.

It takes several months to get a temporary intern license. While I was waiting for mine, Hurricane Harvey hit Houston. I volunteered to help out as a civilian. However, I was unable to provide any counseling services due to not having my LPC-Intern license. Counseling services were and are direly needed in Texas. It is unacceptable for us to have to put our careers on hold for 3-6+ months because of inefficient licensing practices. Please make the necessary changes for a timely and consistent licensing process. Thank you.

It took several months in order to receive my licensing which was very frustrating. It is as though lives are put on hold because it the licensing is necessary for positions. Obtaining a job takes time as job postings receive many applicants and that is a whole other process. It would be appreciated that things be done in a punctual manner so that we may obtain the licensing we worked so hard to get. Thank you for your time.

I agree, it takes entirely too long for new candidates to get their licenses.

I fully support the reform of our licensing board and support of mental health counselors in the State of Texas.

It took me five months to get mine.
