The Youth, arguably the future of New Zealand. With this in mind, shouldn’t we make it easy for them to study?

Studylink is a service provided by the Ministry of Social Development that deals with the 310,000 students who apply for loans each year. This year, according to TVNZ, Studylink has dealt with 426,000 calls, many of them repeat callers. However, 296,000 of these calls were dropped.

StudyLink is notorious for long delays, administrative errors and poor service. This isn’t about frivolous students waiting for the Government to pick up the tab, it is about a service that is failing young New Zealanders already juggling study and part-time work with the stress of budgeting. This is a service that is meant to make our students want to study and further themselves. Just as it did with the Novopay debacle, the National Government seems to think it is okay for people to get by with no income. Teachers can't do it, and neither can students.

It's a similar pattern across the country, not just affecting the minority. Studylink recommends to use its website as much as possible, but with a website that was built for 2001, it’s not up to the modern day environment.
