Stop the Rezoning of the Tandy Woods into a Parking Lot for Demarest Farms!

786 Hillsdale Avenue – sometimes called the Tandy Woods - is a 12-acre wooded property currently zoned as residential. Because Demarest Farms is being overrun by customers coming to “pick your own” from August through October, the Hillsdale governing bodies have been asked to consider rezoning the Tandy Woods from RESIDENTIAL to FARM LAND so the owners of Demarest Farms can buy it and build a 300-space parking lot. We believe this a terrible idea both financially and esthetically!

• LOST TAX REVENUES FOR HILLSDALE. The property currently brings in $30,000 per year to the town. That would drop to $0 if the Farm buys it. The property is currently zoned for three houses to be built, which would bring in approximately $70,000 in property tax revenue every year.
• LOWER PROPERTY VALUES. The change from landscaped residential to 300 parking spaces would lower property values of surrounding homes and maybe all of Hillsdale
• EYESORE. A large parking lot amid landscaped homes is totally out of character for the neighborhood.
• SAFETY & HEALTH CONCERNS FOR OUR CHILDREN…increased traffic with the Smith School and ball fields down the street

LET’S KEEP HILLSDALE RESIDENTIAL and DESIRABLE! The rezoning of the property only benefits the owners of the farm. NOT A GOOD DEAL FOR US! We need to tell the Mayor, Council and Planning Board that we the people of Hillsdale think it’s a bad deal and oppose the rezoning.
