Fight back to stop Kingston councils money making scam on issuing penalty charges

This does not solve any of the problems claimed by the council. It's purely a money maker.

Sick to death of the cyclists much more important things our Borough is in desperate need of ! Councillors please wake up and see the damage you are doing to our Borough we are not and never will be Holland

I am in agreement that the penalty charge in this location is ill though through, opportunistic and dangerous.

The warning signs are not prominent enough and are too high for driver's eye level.

Money grabbing council - life's tough enough at the moment without b*****t like this to contend with.

No point to this other than to clog up the other roads in the area, more slow/stationary traffic means more pollution!!! Pure stupidity!!! Pure greed!!!

All of the comments made I agree with. I feel a warning letter would have solved the problem in my case. The signage was poor and as a regular user of this route on car and by bus I had no idea it was not open to cars. I had to pay twice in 2.5 hours.

inadequate and confusing signage. clearly a money making exercise, some would call it extortion...

I am a retired music teacher and am currently helping at least 8 people and formally representing two, at Council and Tribunal level. I am an experienced parking campaigner and representative. In addition to the signage issues, there are issues concerning the non-compliance of the Council's Penalty Charge Notices as they do not adequately describe the alleged contravention and the appalling poor quality of the images and online evidence they present. Further, the PCNs limit you to one ground only as is confirmed by the online representations system: this is wrong in law. Also, their Notices of Rejection are also flawed because they do not follow the mandatory wording. They are also sending evidence to the Tribunal which suggests that there has been consultation: there has been no consultation. There is also an issue with the Traffic Management Order and erection of the signage. I am sickened by this and the reason most people pay up and/or lose is because they cannot be bothered to fight, which is understandable as they do not have the technical knowledge, and this, in turn, leads them to present "weak" appeal arguments at the Tribunal and this is why there are so many unsuccessful appeals at present. The other night I successfully stopped at least 15 motorists from going down the restriction with two others. Everyone should write to the Chief Adjudicator (Caroline Hamilton) to urge her to send an Adjudicator to make an assessment of the site personally and at night time, in particular. If anyone has had their representations rejected and paid, they can complain to the Council via the Local Governments Ombudsman route. Really surprised when a penalty notice came through the post. Did not think I had done anything wrong at the time.

This new regulation has not been properly thought out or signposted and locals are still not aware of the new rule. Nobody wishes to drive down a road that they are not allowed to but the signs are not arranged in all directions clearly enough to show the change. The signs are too high on the actual bollards in Surbiton Crescent for car users to see. There are no signs at all on Maple Road coming from Waggon & Horses Hill to warn you not to turn right into Surbiton Crescent. There are none in Palace Road. The appeal system is illogical and unfair. Road users are prejudiced and disadvantaged in this scheme. The scheme has caused much upset and anxiety to locals and it needs to be stopped now and money paid back.

Got a penalty charge in October!!

My son has been a victim of this scam. Road badly signed and like many others got fined. Think all should be refunded, just like parents with kids attending Surbiton High already have.

The reason for the closure doesn't work - there is no cycle lanes anywhere close - and why no consultation? Money making scam by Tory (insert your own descrpition)
