Approving these bill will only destroy the historic character of our built environment and forever change the quaintness that many have come to enjoy while visiting New England. Zoning decisions should not be governed by those in Hartford but should remain in control of the local zoning boards in their respective towns. Period!

ENOUGH with the taxes! The taxes we pay are already out of hand. Work within a budget that doesn't raise taxes or cut services. CT is suppose to be getting a big chunk of the new stimulus package. Why raise taxes'?

Please get your house in order at the state level. The town government works stunningly well by comparison.

SB 1024 is a bad bill that if made law will have many unintended consequences. First, it taxes people based on the "market value" of their home and will force retirees and other people that are no longer working and to eventually have to sell their homes. Even a 2 % tax collected over 10 years means 20% of a retiree's assets are being confiscated by the State over time. Second, an investment in your home is made with after tax dollars. The State is proposing to double tax home owners on assets that are not liquid. This is a completely unfair and unnecessary way to address affordable housing. Local communities like Darien have a plan and should be allowed to execute their plan. Third, the people that will suffer most from the "mandate by rights" approach within 1/2 mile radius are the people who typically are middle class home owners with lower value properties. Having a multifamily home pop up next door in a previously single family neighborhood of medium priced homes will drive down the value of their home. The Bill doesn't hurt home owners that are farther away. These typically larger properties are homes owned by individuals with typically higher incomes. So the unintended consequence of the Bill is that it hurts the average middle class home owner rather than helps them. I strongly object to this bill and urge our CT representatives to vote NO!

Worked for 45 years to get the house of my dreams as I near retirement. Please don't take my dream away by taxing me so I can't afford to keep it!
