S.O.S. - Save Our Sunset Beach from Being Privatized!!

What do I dislike about the proposal?
• Takes up too large a portion of the beach – probably close to 40% of the usable beach area.
• Too many courts for such a small area.
• Lack of parking to support this type of activity.
o It was stated that it would be only a maximum of 48 vehicles, which would take up to half the parking spots on a busy weekend.
o Lack of organized parking spots in the area due to it being a semi-finished parking lot – The Rapids Volleyball Association stated they would direct the traffic, but you would not be able to hold them to this.
o Strong concern brought up from the boaters with trailers that they would have a difficult time working their way through a more congested parking lot (it was stated during the meeting that they do experience difficulties at times already during the summer months)
o As a taxpayer, I do not want to see money spent on improving the parking facilities at this location now. We are headed towards a tax increase above the inflation rate this year already and we must not have our taxes raised unnecessarily.
• Poor washroom facilities to support that large a group of people
o The washroom facility was previously closed and the City invested $10,000 a few years ago to get it into a somewhat better state, but it is my understanding that to provide new facilities like the standard washroom facility (Pearson Park) would require a $400,000 investment. There is no possible way the City can afford this type of expenditure soon. The Parks and Recreation Department needs to complete their Master Plan for the City before entertaining the possibility of this item.
• I did not like the fact that Beth Schultz was focusing on the development of the youth (which was great) and then Anthony Venneri focused his attention on the main purpose was to attract Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) Beach Tour Events to the area. It came across that it was all about tournaments for the Niagara Rapids and other outside groups rather

Someone has to take the fun out of everything eh.... please leave this beach alone. I use it far to much for it to be taken from me

I will not pay to enjoy our beach. You should replace the ball hockey courts and make the beach a nice place for everyone to enjoy free of charge. Not ruining beautiful property for your wealthy gain.

Not enough appears to have been put into this endeavour. Many people already take full advantage of this public space - you will be deminishing its potential use -not enhancing it.

This beach hosts no less than 1000 people each and every sunny day. Do not take from the many who use and pay for this beach already with our tax dollars and give to the few who just want to make money for themselves!!

are the Rapids trying to buy the beach to make it private or will the City own it. how is this different than the City owned arenas being used by pay for play minor sports?
