Any theater program is a family. A community for people to go and perform and learn skills that can never be taught in a classroom. The determination to put on a good show, whether it be for a cast or crew member, is so important. Everyone has a role to make one story happen and that includes the director! No one deserves to have their talent and time cut in half like this.

Joining the North High Theater Department under Mark Rixner's leadership was a turning point in my life and I learned so many marketable skills and life lessons by participating in the program. I am a better person for being in NHS Drama and I know I'm not the only one with a story like this. Dozens and dozens of other students have been positively impacted by North theater and it must continue to exist in the same capacity that it always has.

Why why why is it always the ARTS that take the first hit when budget cuts are needed?!? Arts provide a needed outlet of expression for students who may not find it anywhere else!

Theatre has given me a family and has motivated me to be a happier, better student! Theatre is so so special and cannot be reduced to less than full-time importance!!!

As an alumnus, I'm very disappointed to see the theatre in peril... I spent many hours there!!

Class of 2010! The theatre program is an absolutely wonderful part of North High School, and for many students it gives a way to express themselves. I have seen it change and shape many young lives throughout the years, please help keep it alive!

North High Theater has benefited my life in countless ways, the school would be making a huge mistake to cut down the program.

The fine arts is always the first thing to go, yet the arts teach our children the life skills that they are so desperately wanting to learn like cooperation, hard work, and believing in yourself. Band and orchestra at North have already practically disappeared. Don't let the same thing happen to a program at North that is actually doing well and has passionate students!

The arts are so incredibly important and I'm a senior and if I had my opportunities cut in half I don't know where I'd be today. I would have missed out on so many learning opportunities and I wouldn't be able to express myself like I can now. The arts are not expendable and shame on whoever thinks they are.

I am a 1986 NHS Grad..I was in band, choir, art, and Drama, Now as an adult, those classes and projects were very much a part of how mine and many of my friends lives were affected, please, please, do not take this away from our children snd young adults!

I absolutely love North's show, you can really see the dedication and time he puts into them. His students do a wonderful job of acting and singing too.

I've known Mark Rixner since I was in 6th grade. He was one of the best Drama teachers I've ever had. I participated in Drama club and numerous other activities since middle school. I was lucky enough to have him transfer to North High school my senior year and have him as a teacher again.

The arts promote graduation rates by keeping kids in school, helping them feel connected to "something bigger than themselves" and enhancing their communication skills, among others...! And away from health risks from alienation, depression, suicide... Even the quieter visual artists can find a place in the theater, as I did at Des Moines' Roosevelt High...

The fate of NHS depends of this class. It has helped raise thousands of dollars through fund raisers and shows, and has been a huge impact on many students lives, myself included.

There are other cuts that can be made. This is not one that should be.
