STOP the assault by Carl Beruff at Long Bar Pointe with Aqua by the Bay –no dredging, no sea wall, no mangrove removal. Someone must be the custodian of our environment. It is outrageous that no one takes responsibility for the possible loss of species in our environment. Remember mitigation bank does NOT work! Terrible disregard of laws imposed to save our environment from such destruction of our natural resources. Manatee and Sarasota are over built over developed and our roads congested our water ways full of run off. Our water tables are in trouble. How is it that in the State of Florida you can allow one of the most important Estuaries to be destroyed? This is despicable. We’re vulnerable and no one is protecting OUR COUNTY AND OUR LEGACY.

The fact that anyone has to continue debating this issue is a disgrace - What was one of the last remaining waterfront areas to sutain birds and sea life has been decimated into a plowed out pile of lifeless dirt

The mangrove shoreline is one of the greatest existing examples of a mature mangrove forest anywhere along the SW FL coast outside of the Everglades National Park. To allow its destruction would be shameful. However, unless the Manatee County Commission has the strength to work toward its preservation, it will, under existing Florida Statutes, be allowed to degraded into a shoreline with 6-ft high chopped down mangrove shrubs that will degenerate over time to almost nothing. Advocates for protecting these mangroves must begin to understand that Florida State Law (Mangrove Trimming Act of 1996) explicitly allows such destruction. Only proactive and innovative action by local Manatee government officials can save it. Manatee County Commissioners -- if you fail to act, this destruction is your doing. Act strongly and boldly. Do not let County Attorneys like Clague cow-tow you into wrongly thinking that you must submit to the destruction because of threat of law suits. Be strong (for once} and stand up for the County and residents. As for threatened law suits....for once tell the developers that you will not submit to their threats. Short of that, any Commissioner that fails to be strong, MUST be defeated for re-election....but the destruction will already have happened, and the election defeat will be fruitless.

The beauty of the bay is what draws visitors year round, and keeps the residents connected to the area. Over development adds nothing to the allure of the bay, over taxes the infrastructure that is already inadequate, and endangers the very reason this area exists.
