I cannot believe that we are still having to justify our existence. I fought that battle for 34+ years. The evidence of the benefits of Music Education is staggering. This is shameful.

I made some of the best friends I ever had in the music department. Many of them used it as therapy, and I feel that option should always be available to kids struggling, both in school and at home

Teachers are Educated enough to come up with a fair solution is that a PTO subject for discussion any cuts should shared through out the school as a whole.

The impact that the South Hadley music program has had on so many kids lives is beyond words. My son was part of the program for 2 years and he has said it was the best thing he as ever done. Beth Ayn is by far one of the best, most caring and compassionate teachers you will ever have. For some kids, band is the only place where they feel safe, welcome, not judged and feel like they have a family. For others, it's a place where they can showcase their talents and pursue their dreams of performing. If this was impacting sports teams the issue would be rectified immediately, but because it is Muisc it is being dismissed.

My 2 daughters were part of the marching band, show choir, indoor percussion and chorus programs at South Hadley. I see the impact it made on my girls. Not all students are athletes and the music department is a place for those students.

I was part of the SHHS Tigerpride band and it was a great experience. My son is looking forward to joining band next year in fifth grade. Please support these programs.

The school never cuts sports it always the music program. This school has many talented people that have come from our music program like Mike Kittredge who owned Yankee Candle and know owns kringle candle. Brian Chartrand is with the Sweet Remains and travels all over the country and world and and that is just a couple that without our music program they would not be from where they are. I graduated 1971 and I two was in the music program as was my husband, my boys and my grandaughter

My middle school and high school choir teachers were the reason I made it through South Hadley schools. Not only did they allow me to be who I wanted to be and feel comfortable in who I was, they also inspired me to become a professional musican. Beth Ayn helped me achieve my goal of becoming a professional opera singer, and also inspired me to become a music educator. As the current vocal educator for the biggest high school in the state of Vermont I look back and know I got to where I am today because of her. South Hadley has ALWAYS been known for its amazing high school music program, through marching band, showchoir, indoor percussion and many more ensembles. How man studies have shown that music or only increases test scores, but also activates all sides of the brain. I would hate for those students to be "left behind" becusse they didn't have choices. Sometimes music is the only thing that gets those students through the school day.

This undertaking by Soith Hadley school system makes me extremely sad. Chorus was such an huge part of my life in high school. My son who will b entering 9 grade next year is extremely upset about this as he was looking forward to doing chorus with Ms. Curtis.

I understand how important music is to people. Sometimes it's the only thing that some of us have to look forward to in a day. It's more than just a high school corriculum, it's a way of life. I know these kids work their hardest to peruse their music careers and it's already hard enough without budget cuts. Reconsider this please, otherwise you can change people's "golden years" of highschool, for the worst .

As the parent of 4 graduates of the South Hadley High School Music Department I can't stress enough the importance of Music Education in my children's lives... It has made all of them better people, and I credit BethAyn Curtis for teaching them to love and appreciate all forms of music.
