High school music groups provide so much beyond music education. Participation in band and chorus also affords students the opportunity to build character and a sense of belonging, as well as responsibility, within a supportive community. While the majority of us who played an instrument did not go on to become professional musicians, without a doubt we learned to strive, to achieve great things with humility, to meet our failures with grace, to be accountable to one another, the and to share in each other's successes. All in all, the program provides wonderful preparation for life, which is the ultimate goal of a good education.

Music is a career path that many people want to go down. Taking it away doesn't benefit a student's education in any way. If you're taking away music, then take away sports.

The inability to effectively schedule class offerings should not be the cause of a lack of opportunity for students to study music at the high school level. There are better ways to manage this. These issues have been figured out by other school systems. Perhaps the school can reach out to figure out another way to make the classes more available, thereby increasing enrollment, thereby increasing the need for full staffing. It is incredibly short-sighted to solve this problem by cutting the amount of professional staffing. Please find a better solution in the best interest of all the students. Music in schools should be celebrated as it brings joy and makes for more well-rounded learners.

Music is a basic part of education, but we have to have the schedule set up so students can participate and there has to be administration support that is backed up by the guidance office.

As a former student of the SHHS music program, I can say that the program has changed the trajectory of my life. I've taken those experiences and the knowledge gained with me to become a professional in the industry, and have experienced some of the most rewarding experiences in my professional life as a direct result of the support and guidance of the dedicated music educators in the South Hadley public schools. I believe that current and future generations of students have an incredible amount to gain from a rich and varied curriculum that includes the arts, and ask that the administration and school board take the suggestions in this petition seriously.

Music education is one of the most important things a child can have in school. Not only is it something special child can learn to love and have a passion for, but it has also been proven children who have music ed classes do better in math and science. Music is the international language and if a child wants to pursue music in school we should not deprive them of their intrest.

Non rotating arts block would solves this. Offer no "core" classes. Common planning time for academic departments! It's a win win

A never ending story for South Hadley. High achieving arts undervalued in scheduling and understanding of their importance to student accomplishment. Open the schedule up to allow electives that let all students explore more than the clamped up academic requirements. The town will be the richer for it!!
