Stop Education Discrimination against Iranians in Norway

Please help us to reach 2000 signatures!

If there is any law against studying of Iranians ? please get this to public, then we will see how your people react to this! I recently applied to several universities but all of them say that the the maximum degree for Iranian(in my field) is M.D .Means, we cant study in PHD level ,because we are IRANIAN. HEY...! Thats rediculous !

Well said! Thank you! They really need to consider the competition over the western countries to absorb the most qualified students; in which US and Canada would be the most "attractive" of all for Iranians based on different criteria such as lifestyle! I would also like to add that many Iranians chose to come to Norway for studies (including me) since Sweden set tuition for International students. Before that Sweden was the choice for most.. It all shows that it's for financial benefits no other reason!

When people here in Norway use Iranian papers in university research there is technology transfer, but not from Norway to Iran but the reverse! :)

Iranian students are very real treasures of that nation. They make invaluable contributions to the advancement of science and technology both in Norway and Iran. Stop these unfair discriminations, and let Iranian students study and live in Norway as any other students!

This is not a act from UDI to restricted the renewal and issuance of visa and resident permit for Iranian students. Its the Norweagean goverment how has given these guidelines to UDI. this i duo to that the Norweagen Security Police (PST). PST is worried that Iranians who come to Norway can do it under the pretext of obtaining information that can help the country develop weapons of mass destruction. It appears in the threat assessment for 2013. - Most efforts to acquire technology from Norwegian companies, which are relevant to weapons of mass destruction, can be linked to Iranian actors. These are ongoing and seeks to establish contacts to potential trade partners and people in positions within the relevant businesses, said the threat assessment. In my opinion, do several of visa applicants probably have legitimate reasons to apply for jobs and studies in Norway. However, there are indications that some of these deliberate attempts to acquire knowledge and expertise in specific technology areas, which may have implications for Iran's nuclear program or other military programs. this is duo to that Norway is an attractive country, partly because several other European countries have made restrictions for Iranian applicants for research and study. PS. this has nothing to do with discrimination, just national security.

Dear Christian, I would like to itemize my answer to be more clear: 1) If Iranian regime wants to use a country for transferring such technologies, it is not definitely Norway. The fact that Norway is highly developed and wealthy doesn't mean that you are also capable of all kinds of technologies and science, and Iranians really need to come to Norway to learn about basic engineering fields. If they want to transfer that kind of technologies related to the military and nuclear program China and Russia are much easier sources for getting that kind of technologies, and please believe (I know it's hard for typical Norwegians) Iranian research centers are much ahead of most countries (including Norway) in such type of ( I would say "bad" types of) technologies. Iran had a nuclear program since 1950s while Norway never had such programs. 2) The main motivation of students from countries like Iran, India, Pakistan and China for coming to Norway is your excellent research funding which is better than all countries around the world. BUT as a NTNU graduate I would say that you have a long way to be even comparable with your neighbors in Sweden and Denmark. AND you should know that, even with that excellent funding, still the best students go to the US and Canada. We had a terrible economic situation after sanctions and it is not strange why so many students are coming to Norway in recent years. It is all about better economic situation and nothing else. 3) Between 2008 and 2012 Norway accepted many Iranians, most of them were engineers in subjects related to the energy sector. This period of time was the most critical period of our nuclear program and we had lots of problems with the West. Now after new agreement with the US and EU which is going to solve the problem, your government just found out that they should limit Iranians? Dear Christian Thank you for your comment. Here I would like to mention some points: -The UDI made a decision for those cases even effected by PST, therefore UDI is responsible. And about PST: In 2013 PST (Politi Sikkerhetstjenste ) announced its concern on sharply increasing number of Iranian applicants for study in Norway at a press conference. They claimed it will enhance potential of transfer of the knowledge (spying) which shall be misused by Iranians for development of mass destructive weapons. See ref 1 Perhaps, this may not be neglected that this recent tendency toward the Norwegian academic institutions can be due to several factors. Among them, we can mention the recent admission regulations imposed by Swedish universities back in 2011 which in turn shifted the Iranian students to study in Norway rather than Sweden. The following table shows the number of Iranian students who studied in Sweden between 2006 and 2011. See ref 2 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 349 595 941 1164 1446 361 The numbers indicate two facts: 1. There has been an increasing demand of studying abroad (at least in Sweden) for education among Iranian students in the recent years The most likely reasons for this tendency are: to have free of charge high-quality education, increasing population of young people, limitations and difficulty for entry to higher educational inside Iran, increasing political and economical pressure to young generation (while international sanctions imposed against Iran), to find better life and etc. 2. In 2011 Swedish universities introduced tuition fee for non-EU students based on the governmental regulations. For that reason, they lost many international students including Iranians. Dear PST, Why are you hallucinating??!! This is the real reason of increasing the number of master students who selected Norway. For most of my friends and me Sweden was the first priority for master degree as everybody are aware that except petroleum field, the academic level of Sweden is higher than Norway , but we had to choose Norway due to applying the tuition fee rule in Sweden since 2011. At right now, Norway is one of the rare countries in the world which has free universities for foreign and specially Non-EU applicants.

Yes for example the recent rejections were working to reduce CO2 emission and that will definitely lead to weapons of mass destruction! Not really true about the other European countries! They have just restricted Nuclear energy studies not mass rejection of any technology as condcuted by PST.
