I took my first flight lesson from Jim Tatum in 1993. Eventually I decided to pursue a career in aviation.
Jim Tatum was not only my flight instructor but also a mentor. Now I fly the Airbus A321 for American Airlines which is the world’s largest airline.
Without the help and support of Jim and Marvene I could not have made it.
The Tatum’s were always kind to everyone. Once a newspaper reporter from Ohio stopped in for fuel on his way to Florida. He had such a good time visiting with the Tatum’s that he not only spent the entire afternoon but made them the subject of a beautiful newspaper article about a welcoming airport in the foothills of the North Georgia mountains.
The Tatum’s were not only the custodians of the airport, they were goodwill ambassadors to Habersham County and The state of Georgia.

Jim taught me to fly and was a mentor throughout my early career. I am now a captain at southwest airlines. It would have never been possible with jim and marvene. God speed and blue skies.

These two dedicated their hearts and souls to this airport, so it is only fitting that it should be renamed in honor of them.

Rename the Habersham County Airport to include Tatums names. They gave so much of their time and energy to this airport and deserve the recognition.

There is no doubt they both dedicated their life to AJR. This needs to be renamed for sure.

This is a great idea since they essentially grew the airport from very humble beginnings
