Oppose the Renaming of James F. Byrnes High School Mascot, the "Rebels"

The James F Byrnes Rebel/Rebels has nothing to do with the color of someone's skin or race. I have 4 biracial children 3 have graduated from Byrnes & one more to graduate this coming school year. They all have never felt any type of racism in this school. My eldest daughter was homecoming queen 2008. If you had seen it when she won it gave you a great feeling of love for her over the whole entire school ground that day. I never saw so much excitement that she won from a school the entire stadium stood up for her cheering. I have witnessed alot of homecomings also. Never saw anything like this one when she won. My eldest son played football all his years there. All 3 of my daughters we're cheerleaders & captains also my daughters we're named and awarded All Region National State Cheerleaders of there school. If the meaning behind Rebel means racist. I don't see it at all. Anyone that says it does hasn't got there facts correct at all. My child even want there children to attend Byrnes when they have there own children to carry on the family name there.

it is time to stop and see what they are doing to this country. No more we are not going to please people that want and want . if Christ was in their Heart they would stop.

I was a Byrnes rebel and highly oppose changing the name of the mascot. We have to stand up against making these types of changes that affect us in a negative way.

I am a liberal and believe fervently in equalities for every individual. But this is REDICULOUS! The Rebels have been and should be the REBELS!!! Get over it!!

Is there a petition to get rid of the racist NAACP?

When our ancestors fought for our independence from Britain, they were Rebels. If you read the Webster's definition of Rebel, you will find that it means an opposition to authority. Webster's makes no mention of any race related meaning.

This insane purge has to end. There should be no renaming of the school.

I went to byrnes for a brief time but I still believe we all need to work together and fight with the rebel spirit.
