To improve road safety & reduce traffic speed through Radyr & Morganstown to 20mph

Too many near misses on a daily basis on Heol Isaf. Existing measures are wholly inadequate for what has become an arterial route in and out of Cardiff centre.

In addition the pelicon crossings need to give more pirority to perdestions at peek times

I agree with this. There is not much point having intermittent 20mph zoning, on the main road by the two Schools. This leaves children along other stretches vulnerable to speeding cars. The whole road needs calming and significant speed reduction. The road between Ffordd Treforgan and Min-Y-Coed has cars doing 35-45mph, alongside children walking to School. A car mounted the pavement on the hill and came at me and my two boys a few years back. It missed us by feet. The only traffic calming on that stretch is the Pedestrian Crossing by Chapel Road, at the tragic 1997 incident. I have seen two collisions along Heol Isaf / Main Road in Morganstown, One involving an old lady, a Mum and newborn baby. I was run over, nearly fatally, on a zebra crossing outside one of the Radyr Schools, by a car braking from in excess of 30mph. The stats on speed and accidents/injuries/fatalities are readily available, which is why many local authorities in England are moving to 20mph in all residential urban areas. It make sense and with driver education is generally very well accepted.

I have lived in Radyr for more than 30 years and, while in the early days, the main road was busy, it is now ten times worse and presents a real hazard for all users. Many vehicles now park illegally (ie two wheels on the pavement), particularly near the school at the end of the school day, so it is as dangerous for pedestrians as it is for drivers.

Sounds very reasonable to have 20 mph by the school area!

Make road safety a priority

The school run between the surgery and the cenotaph feels more and more unsafe each day that goes by, 20mph should be a minimum requirement for the road when other similar B roads across Cardiff have adopted such measures. There is also a need for traffic calming as it is very easy for speed to creep on the long stretches without crossings or lights.

It is vital that we have traffic calming and more crossings along Heol Isaf.

Should have been done years ago especially a proper crossing where the flashing speed limit is sited just above Bryn Derwyn entrance

I live in Ty Mynydd. Last year an elderly gentleman was knocked over by a car. We cannot cross the road safely. I have been asking for a crossing for several years.

I agree with the petition. Importantly, the installation of a pedestrian crossing at Min-Y-Coed is a priority.

Measures are desperately overdue on this stretch of road. The sadest part of all of this is that residents do not feel safe to walk within their own community. This is contrary to numerous current government initiatives to imrpove people's levels of activity and at the same time reduce pollution and individual car use.

The speeds are ridiculous, the traffic is ridiculous... yet the traffic calming and safe crossings for pedestrians are non-existent. How on earth is there not a pedestrian crossing outside a medical centre and community rooms?! With the increase in traffic on Kings Road as well, literally half the village cannot get to see the GP without taking their own life in their hands!

I agree with this petition. We urgently need a pedestrian crossing where the pavement ends at Minycoed. A speed camera instead of the solar speed sign. Camera van in Morganstown at commute times not the middle of the day as sometimes now.

I welcome all improvements if they are for safety issues.
