We, the undersigned, request that the Mayor and Council of the Town of Fort Erie move expeditiously to Designate the following as an Heritage Property and preserve it from complete demolition:

Ridgeway Public School, 143 Ridge Road North, Ridgeway, Ontario

The original structure was built in 1920 with many special and distinctive features of architectural, historical and contextual importance. This includes the architect Walter William LaChance, who significantly, has other works designated in both Ontario and Saskatchewan. Ridgeway Public School stands strongly to this day as a unique construction that bookends the town of Ridgeway and makes it an attractive locale and destination to both residents and visitors alike. It visibly records our history in many contexts, but is in imminent danger of being completely demolished, without your commitment and support. Sign today!

The town has been working for years on sprucing up historical buildings and restoring the charm of the town. This building deserves to be saved as it is a wonderful property that is an important historical landmark for residents.

The old buildings of Ridgeway, Crystal Beach and Stevensville are what brought our family to this area. Without this charm, we could have, and would have, settled elsewhere. Please do what is needed to keep the Ridgeway High School.

Having had graduated at this school, it holds a special place for me. However, the building is historically significant in many regards. It would be a shame to see Ridgeway loose this large part of her history.

While I don't believe it is necessary to save the entire schooI building, I would like to see some of the key heritage features of the existing building incorporated into the construction of the new school.

Please consider the importance of preserving local history. This school is part of the charm and uniqueness of Ridgeway. North Americans are so quick to tear down older buildings and put up new characterless buildings with no sense of historical value. We can learn a lot from Europe in this manor.

Children attending this school should not have to be uprooted to a new one when this historical piece can still serve its purpose. What are we teaching the new generation...if its broke, don't fix it, just destroy it? Shame on you!

This must be the most interesting structure in Ridgeway and they want to demolish it? I am sure that the building could and should be saved and put to a good use.
