Request for exempt children from age 12 to age 16 from qurantine who accompanied by full vaccinated parents

With reference to Circular issued by Ministry of Health Sri Lanka on 6 April 2021, children below 12 years accompanied by travelers who fully vaccinated are exempted mandatory quarantine. We welcome this decision. However, children under 16 year old cannot receive the vaccines as per WHO guidelines. Therefore, it make no sense even if they have negative PCR children age from 12 – 16 years need for quarantine despite their parents are vaccinated.

Many Sri Lankan expatriates living abroad will return to Sri Lanka every year just to visit their parents and relatives. However, they could not do so in last two years due to Covid-19 pandemic. Moreover, the most of them have limited holidays due to busy schedules in their organizations. Therefore, if the above rule is continued they will have to spend most of their holidays in quarantine with their children. Accordingly, the expatriates who are having children between age 12 to 16 are dismay that they will not be able to visit their motherland this year too.

Considering above, we request authorities to amend the guideline to change the age limit from age 12 to age 16, which will allow the children of fully vaccinated parents to exempt from quarantine.

Thanks you for your understanding,

Best Regards,

Sri Lankan Expat living abroad.

My daughter is 14. There is no vaccine for children under 16. How unfair is this for us to quaratine when the rest of the family is all vaccinated. The whole world exempts children under 16. Only Sri Lanka has foolish rules like this.

Under the age of 16, according to Sri Lankan law, all children. No child can be confined to one room for 14 days. Whether this event is recommended by any child psychologists or counselors is a dilemma. Corona, however, hopes to reverse this decision, which is pushing children into depression.

I too agree with this petition as i also have my child who is 15 turning 16 this coming july .However, we are not able return as i am a fully vaccinated parent but my child is not and staying and giving up half of the vaccation to qurantine is not our expectancy so we request the authorities to amend the regulation.

Please note the world health organization approved to vaccinate kids above 16 only. Therefore, kids below 16 should be excempted for quarantine. Also note that these days kids dont go to school and outside in uae hence very less chance they carrying a virue.

This is really ridiculous decision as far as I concern too. If the WHO not allowed that age to get vaccines why the hell government has to punish the parents for that.i have 16 old and I make sure he got the vaccine.but other 02 kids are not able to do that and what do you want me to do? Really not make sense at all.

I have a 13 year daughter and I don't want her to be isolated and quarantined while me and my wife have completed both doses of the vaccine and completed more than 2 weeks after the 2nd dose and eligible to be out and about after our PCR test up on arrival in SL.
