I am disappointed to read this information. Periphera nerve stimulation is often the only option for our patients with chronic pain and we are trying to dissuade practices such as chronic opioids and the potentiation of the opioid epidemic.

This is a very valuable treatment for patients with peripheral nerve injury. I find it appalling to make such sweeping decisions for patient care in the face of strong evidence. This is a minimally invasive technique and is opioid sparring. In a day and age where we are trying to avoid opioids whenever possible, this kind of action takes away another tool we have to fight this epidemic. This shows that bottom lines are more important than patient outcomes to payors!

PNS has proved to be an extremely effective treatment for my patients. Before using PNS, for patients that had failed all conservative care, I was resorting to medication management.

Shame on BCBS, but not surprising. They would rather have patients living on drugs so they can't work and get moved on to some state run insurance.

PNS has helped countless patients with intractable neuropathic pain, particularly those who have exhausted other therapies or have anticoagulation issues excluding other interventions like SCS or DRG

I implore of you to make PNS an option for your patients so they can improve their quality of life and avoid opioid addiction and the burden, complications, inconvenience and expense of permanent Neuromodulation implants i.e. Spinal and Stimulator’s, intrathecal pump’s.
