I have met and talked with people whose lives were changed by the relief they got from treatment by Peripheral Nerve Stimulation.
I strongly suggest you reconsider not including this treatment in your list of acceptable / qualified therapies.

Insurers like you need to STOP denying access to medically necessary treatment for your members! We are the physicians specialized in pain management.
You say you're concerned about opioid use and are "successfully" combating the epidemic... why would you block access to a non-narcotic treatment modality? Do you realize you could be more "successful" if you covered treatments that have proven to effectively treat chronic pain.
You say you're concerned about healthcare expenditures... why would you deny access to a non-invasive, non-permanent treatment?
The healthcare industry is supposed to help our patients. This drafted policy proves you are NOT here to do what's best for your members!

As a payor, you job is to cover the medical recommendations, including the possibly better new ones, not to challenge them with ad Hoc knowledge. Do your jobs and pay. Period.

The opioid addiction and the resultant deaths is currently a forgotten epidemic due to the more pressing healthcare matters. However, this epidemic will continue being a major killer for years to come. PNS is an important tool that has helped me overcome the need for opioid treatment in many of my patients. I strongly recommend that this therapy be adequately reimbursed by all insurances.

This therapy is essential to treat my patients with pain refractory to more conservative measures. If I don’t have this therapy I will have only more opioids or fully impalpable neuromodulation devices available to treat pain
I work in a hospital setting with a multidisciplinary pain model. We have pain psychologist and physical therapy. As a physiatrist I strive to use the least invasive and most scientifically validated treatments for my patients. Our goal is to restore function. SPRINT is essential for those patients that cannot be treated more conservatively

I suffer from peripheral nerve pain in my right leg. I fell in 2016, walking our dogs at the state park. I hit black ice, flew up in the air and landed on the pavement with my right leg. I suffered a spiral fracture of my tibia. 6 months in multiple casts, no driving, and nerve decompression surgery, and I am still in pain. My father was a caring primary care physician. He took care of babies to seniors as well as chronic pain sufferers. I’m signing in memory of my Dad.

All approved options for pain management should available in accordance with patients’ diagnoses and physicians’ clinical judgment. PNS Pain Mgt is part of the physicians’ available therapeutic options, can be effective in pain reduction and reduces utization of narcotics, often with narcotic reduced dosages. Thnk you.

As a patient who used the PNS therapy for post op total knee replacement pain, I did not use ANY narcotics post op due to the efficacy of the PNS system. You would be doing a huge disservice to patients denying this service for pain relief. No narcotics for post op pain is monumental you should be happy and willing to help your subscribers with this medical advantage.
