The City of Prince
Albert has decided to start charging increased fees to
the residents of neighboring rural municipalities for the use of
City run facilities. The city council is hoping to force these RMs to the
negotiating table in the hopes they will burden the cost of these city facilities. But
instead of negotiating, they have decided to punish rural Kids and families. The
city council is charging the following;
$150 per person for registering at indoor facilities (Frank
Dunn, Alfred Jenkins, etc)
$75 per person for registering at outdoor facilities (baseball
diamonds, etc)
These costs might not look bad to you at first glance, but theses
fees are double and sometimes triple what PA city residents are paying. If
your family has 3 kids and wants to register for fall, winter, and spring
programs, this will amount to a significant amount of money for a family. Why
is this decision coming at a time when all families are experiencing increased costs in every aspect of their
lives. Is it fair for the Mayor and council to use rural kids as
political pawns to force these municipalities to the negotiating table?
Everyone please speak out and sign this petition. We hope that
we can show the Mayor and council that there is a better way to negotiate,
that will not impact the ability for rural kids to participate in sports, learning
essential skills, and taking away from families who can’t afford more.
I pay taxes on a commercial building in PA as a business owner, and I also have to pay extra on PA facilities because I live just outside of PA. We support local businesses and donate to any local sports clubs who come looking. I thought we were a big community but it sure doesn't feel like it these days.
