Our Children Deserve a PSB Budget that Prioritizes THEM

The arts programs in Brookline are the heart and soul of a child's education. What has happened to the leadership in Brookline schools that would devalue the arts, devalue the creative and innovative teacher leaders by creating an overblown bureaucratic administrative class who seem to have lost touch with the community and the quality of education we used to have here? Where is the leadership we need to focus on children's joy of learning? When our children were in BHS, we were ranked number 1, now we are #35. Let's see a revised proposal from the central offices with administrative cuts. Our wonderful teachers, children, and parents need the school leadership to prioritize them.

Please stop withholding available funds! Our schools need MORE money to function, not less! WE VOTED FOR HIGHER TAXES in order to spend more on the schools.

My son performed in Artbarn’s musical “Express Yourself” that toured all of the Brookline schools this year. It centered around a group of students that were brave enough to speak out in a grown up world and organize a petition to save their school’s art program. I sign this petition for my son and alllllll the students of Brookline who, through the production, heard the call to sign a petition thus making a difference through the power of their collective voice.

Music is essential and elementary foreign language needs to be restored. Brookline needs to permit more 55 plus condos and buildings catering to students and singles to raise property tax revenue without significant increase in the school population.

We came here because Brookline has long been an exceptional place to educate children, and the quality of educators and academics is still very high, but even BEFORE this budget problem, the obstacles placed in the way of parents getting the 504 or IEP their kids need is appalling, and the experience of living through our school being rebuilt was unbearable for my kid, so that I have begun to feel that we never should have come here in the first place. And now this. DO BETTER!!!

Cuts need to be made that do not directly impact students when possible. The options on the table are simply not good enough. Do better, Brookline!
