The Oshawa Real Estate Investor Alliance is committed to providing safe, clean, legal affordable housing
to the people of Oshawa. We are aligning together to ensure that our
voices are heard.
As a group, we represent tens of millions of dollars in
real estate in Oshawa. We have employed dozens of people and invested
millions of dollars into the local economy renovating our properties.
We believe that the densification within the city is good for the community, and is aligned with the Places to Grow Act.
1.
We want to see the rules for legalizing secondary suites (also known as
Accessory Apartments) more clearly defined, so as to allow building
permits issued to investors who meet the criteria of a "Converted
Dwelling".
2. We would like to see the municipal restrictions consider the legalization of secondary suites within converted dwellings modified to meet Ontario Building and Fire Code guidelines for exisiting dwellings, rather than considering it new construction.
3. We would like to see the City of Oshawa Zoning By-Law 60-94 Amended to remove section 5.12.6(3) and 5.12.7(2) which presently has a date of June 23, 2016.
(In the comments:

Also include any comments regarding your experience during the process of converting a dwelling and adding a secondary in Oshawa - please make sure to share them in the comments section below. We will gather up the comments and present them.)
I have taken several reasons run down houses with illegal second units and cleaned up the eyesore and also made them safe for people to live in. This is a good and responsible way for the City to ensure safety.
