Splash Pad at Huron Height Park
We all are experiencing noticeable changes in Temperature patterns. Based on information from Environment Canada, the hot temperatures of the summer are only going to be increasing and heat waves will be lasting longer than it used to be in the recent past.
Huron Height park area is in the centre geographically of numerous community housing projects. A lot of the families in this area can't afford to use the "pay per use" public pools. This park is also central to numerous elementary schools, Blessed Sacrament Catholic elementary, Sir John A MacDonald public school, Knoll-wood public school, and Lord Elgin public school to name a few.
This community is currently rolling over. Numerous elderly or single living homes are now being used by young families with small children. Installing a splash pad along with few benches and tables for picnics, would provide area families and elderly an escape from summer heat, and a new fun place to gather. It would also provide a safe location for families to use, without having to cross Huron st. There is already on-street parking on the south side of Victoria st, west of McNay st.
The splash pads offer more than just a play area for kids. It's a family-friendly place to safely enjoy water without the risks of a pool and provide for an additional local community gathering space for people of all ages.
There are environmentally and economically friendly options that include recirculating or repurposing water systems that significantly decreases the amount of water pulled from the water supply. When properly designed, splash pads are universally accessible as well.
We residents of the area, request City council to direct staff to build a Splash pad facility in the Huron Heights park so our families & kids may enjoy water during summers without putting an extra expense on the cost of living.
