Demand 1: "(...) priority still given to students currently enrolled in such classes." How exactly will you enforce that? You are creating a nightmare for monitors and technicians. Furthermore, students can pay studio fees (which are dirty cheap) to access some of the studios. Limited equipment + All previous students having access to it = Disaster. Not sure that you thought this through. Demand 2: Cool. We'll need money to do that, though. Demand 3: I agree with most of this, but could you clarify what kind of training they currently receive? Demand 4: Sure, but no "emailed updates". I don't want any more spam. "Public forums"? So that people can pass on them just like they do with Sara Diamond's open office hours? Useful. Same goes to "information sessions" and "panel discussions". How about we have our elected representatives from the student union voice our interests? tl;dr We want stuff, but stuff costs money (Demands 1-2). OCAD already receives little provincial funding per student, but let us ignore that fact. We also have some sensible requests (Demand 3-4), but we cannot count on most of the student body to be bothered (Demand 4).

Let us express our creativity throughout the summer as well. It’s not just an educational thing.

Demand 2 should specify free access : All shops, studios and equipment cages will remain open with free access throughout the summer to facilitate a learning environment that prioritizes a creative, artistic community that reaches beyond the confines of a credit-based learning system.

Summer is the best time in the year to revisit and review what we have learned in the past school year. For students who are solely relying on studio to produce art works, accessing the equipment and shops in the summer is crucial to our career growth.

Knowing my experience here has been echoed by so many is little comfort-- we deserve so much more from this institution.

We deserve a school with more than 5 critique spaces, with actual social spaces, with professors who are up to date with the current waves of art... a school that requires anti-oppression training of their staff and actually holds folks accountable. We deserve mental health support closer than a 10 minutes (+a j-walk).

thanks for doing this. hope they listen. i just dropped out of thesis a couple weeks ago because of a lack of support from faculty and administrators, so i've got lots of time to build the ocad shadow government livestream channel if they need somebody. ocad needs better resources so that anxious people like me with problems like "help i'm being harassed at school by someone who has assaulted me in the past" and "help i'm about to be living in a shelter" can actually get help.. ocad makes thousands of dollars every semester off of neglecting capable students and letting them slip thru the cracks. not to mention that the whole "you can't drop a class if you have over $20 in library fines" policy is like, explicitly classist? idk. i feel cheated by this institution and i dont see possible modes of recourse beyond just burning the bridge.
