I am disgusted to find so much of Polish politics dominated by right wing politics. While not supporting the politics of the anti-communist Stalinist bureaucracy, it's clear that the men who fought in Spain were fighting for democracy, not dictatorship. My wife's uncle, a wing commander in the Polish Free Airforce, has a street names after him, quite rightly. Leave the memory of the Polish Brigade in Spain on public view.

Under cover of anti-communism, they try to repress all anti-fascist and all anti-capitalist ideas. The soldiers of the International Brigades fought for democracy, in Spain and everywhere. Long live their memory!

The memory of the IBs must be preserved, commemorated and honoured. It was a truly noble and humane act to volunteer agaisnt Franco and his fascists allies.

I have visited Poland twice, both to Warsaw and Łódź , where I worked with other international artists in a venue just a short walk from the Ghetto. As a member of the Communist Party and an ardent anti-fascist I am appalled by the move to change the name of Dąbrowszczacy Street. This is not just an attack on the left but also on the
honorable memory of Polish heroes. This is an infamamous descision, and will be remembered as such.
