I vehemently oppose SB 16. Districts with better schools already pay a much higher than average property tax rate per capita without considering the contribution of school funding from state income taxes. While SB16 does not divert funding from local real estate taxes, it does diminish the overall level of funding available for schools for those areas that already pay high taxes. If a given district needs more money, raise your own taxes or reduce costs in other areas less important. Why is this so hard for the democrats in Illinois to understand?

I rather care more about south and southwest suburbs having the same unfair treatment as well as the north side.

This bill is another attempt to extort more tax dollars from the suburubs and give them to Chicago. It explains why Chicago schools will be giving free and reduced lunchs to all children. Not for idealism, but rather for the change in Senate Bill 16 which gives weight in the revised formulae based on the number of student receiving such meals!!!
