The Medford Historical Commission has formally granted the landmark status for 21 Touro Avenue. We are now working with the city clerk to ensure the preservation restrictions are properly recorded at the Middlesex South Registry of Deeds.

In favor of preserving 21 Touro ave intact as a Single House Historic District

We the undersigned concerned homeowners, taxpayers, tenants and residents of the Touro Avenue area and fellow residents of Medford, respectfully request that 21 Touro Avenue, with its historic home and land in their entirety, be protected and designated as a Single House Historic District. We plea that any sale by Tufts University, as owner of the property, and any construction or demolition activity at 21 Touro Avenue be delayed until this beautiful and historically significant property is suitably protected, either by Tufts University securing a Single Home Historic District preservation restriction, or the of the City of Medford securing the same from the Massachusetts Historical Commission, such restriction to apply to any sale now or in the future by Tufts University and any subsequent owner, and to be binding upon all future generations to adhere to such restriction as duly recorded at the Middlesex South Registry of Deeds.
You must be a resident of Medford and 18 or older for your signature to help the cause.

I am currently finalizing the formal request for a preservation restriction to be submitted to the Massachusetts Historical Commission. My team is also coordinating a meeting with city officials to discuss the necessity of protecting the land in its entirety. This documentation remains our primary focus to ensure the property is legally shielded from future development.

Please stop all the over-building in Medford and preserve what I remember the city as being. A family orientated, quiet and neighborly city. These older, historic homes and families that lived in them are what made Medford so beautiful and appealing. Please stop Tufts from taking over our city and demolishing what Medford was founded on.
Please do not sub divide historical sites-let's preserve our history and our neighborhoods.
We must respect and preserve Medford's past. Not everything has to be sacrificed to the bottom line.
It seems if you have enough money you can do what you want. Preserve this historical property house and land..congestion is a very big concern here as well. I fear, now, emergency equipment can't round the corners here. Nothing will be done until something tragic happens. Stop expanding these neighborhoods.
super important that we preserve our history and prevent the gentrification of our city by Tufts University. As a young person who has lived in Medford her whole life but attends a university that does this exact same thing, it is disappointing to see universities trample on the rights of the people who live in the cities that their universities occupy. While Tufts is a great asset to the area, it is important to protect the autonomy of those who live in Medford and NOT gentrify our neighborhoods. This one building is part of a large problem with gentrification in the greater Boston area and Tufts needs to recognize that.
Please do not destroy this historic house.

Medford, time to take some pride in your treasures. Tufts does not get to call all of the shots. Stop the over development, and start making this city a place people talk about for the right reasons!
