The NH State Plan in response to the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) does not represent the direction we believe is best for our state – and our children.

We believe:

  • Our schools should focus on academics – not social and emotional learning. We do not want our schools involved in assessing our children’s attitudes, emotions, or empathy.
  • Parental involvement must become the priority. If our children are having issues of any kind in school, parental involvement must be the priority.
  • Primary accountability for a child rests with parents. As stated in our Constitution, “All power residing originally in, and being derived from, the people, all the magistrates and officers of government are their substitutes and agents, and at all times accountable to them”.
  • We are more interested in factors other than test scores. Factors such as appreciation for our values and involvement, a safe environment, better school discipline, high quality teachers who also care about my child, feedback from teachers, better academics, my child's attitude about school.
  • The teaching of our children should not be turned over to computerized instructional systems in the name of “personalized” instruction. We value high quality teachers in the classroom and understand the positive outcomes when they are teaching and engaging our children.
  • We want high quality and developmentally appropriate standards education standards rather than those “pushed” by national groups and education elites who have financial interests in those standards.
  • All NH schools must be rated – not just Title I schools - based on factors of importance to parents.
  • If schools are failing year after year, we cannot continue to just throw more money and resources at them. Our children are the losers.
  • We are not interested in the state tracking our children and are concerned about privacy and data confidentiality.
  • The state must recognize that even a great school might not be the best fit for every child. Each child is unique.
  • We want education choices for our children.
