taking away the pencil and paper is like forcing CPA candidates to use an abacus. A mouse is not for sketching. You are taking away a fundanental aspect of architecture, solving problems with paper pencil and expecting people to be at their best. online testing is a choice, the risks should be akso. this is an incredbly bad, harmful and petty decusion backed up by zero data.

The ability to draw and write on physical paper is absolutely imperative to an architect. How is removing this CRUCIAL tool fairly accessing an architect's abilities? These unsuccessful digital tools, along with extremely restrictive time constraints are OBSTACLES that have nothing to do with one's understanding of the material because they are OBSTACLES that no licensed architect will ever need to face. Why not test us for our understanding and knowledge?!! It's as if you want less designers to be licensed.

Coming from what I assume is a generation of architects that took their entire exam on paper I cannot even fathom how NCARB came to this decision. Ever tried writing math equations with a mouse? Especially if you're left-handed?

Digital paper is not an adequate replacement. Keep the scratch paper.

Please reconsider the decision to implement the digital scratch paper tool. Test takers have already been forced to reschedule and adjust to new protocols at testing centers. The digital scratch paper tool is yet another challenge that hinders candidates' ability to complete their exams.

Physical scratch paper is a necessary tool for test takers in completing the ARE exams. Hand sketching and note-taking is the backbone of architecture in its education and profession. Eliminating such a critical element is negligent and a blatant signal that NCARB has forgotten its mission to "facilitate licensure".

This is ridiculous. Let's not add yet another thing that can go wrong and slow down the computer software system. Perhaps before 'adding a new feature', NCARB can fix the issues with its current system to make it better!

As always, NCARB is trying to take our money by creating an unethical and inequitable system. The whiteboard does.not.work. Half the time spent is trying to create words and numbers that are halfway decipherable. Left vs right handed individuals - doesn’t work for left handed peoples. Come up with a better system, but don’t change one that already works, even worse.

Physical attach paper is appropriate when we do in-person exam under monitors. And digital is an option for online exam. We should let test taker to choose. At least we need a few months to transfer this new feature like ARE 4.0 to ARE 5.0
