Please don't eliminate the scratch paper! Architects need to sketch!

There is no way you can replicate scratch paper on a computer screen. You have to be able to scribble furiously, in random locations on the paper, draw little diagrams, lines etc. You can't do this to us. This is insane.

I often use all four sides of the scratch paper given. This would be detrimental. If they aren't going to give out scratch paper, they must provide more time to use the digital notepad

Muscle memory is EVERYTHING in standardized testing. We're practicing these problems over and over at home on PAPER not a digital whiteboard

We are naturally drawn to sketch, calculate to help answer questions... removing the scratch paper will not help.

I understand not allowing pen and paper for remote proctored exams, however I never intend to use the remote proctoring. The addition of remote proctoring does not justify taking away pen and paper from candidates at the highly secure test center.

Scratch paper is necessary for success on any ARE exam. Eliminating this would create a need to extend the time allowed to test due to potential glitches/ lag time with digital note taking and that is a huge factor to consider. The physical scratch paper provided by test proctors has absolutely no threat to the security of exams if protocol continues.

This is absurd - if NCARB can not trust the stakeholders in the integrity of the system, then I am sad to say but I don't need to be part of their regimental community they are trying to build.

Using scratch paper is absolutely integral to my process as a designer. I understand NCARB has challenges, and people bitch and complain about every little thing you try to do. This is the one thing I will be vocal about in order to effect the potential change. Removal of scratch paper is detrimental change. As designers throughout our career, and likely our lives, from the time we can hold a pencil, drawing is a part of the design and problem solving process. It is an extension of my thinking. To remove this ability places us all at a handicap. I realize this is the point, to not disadvantage someone who might be testing at home or remotely. However that is their choice to test remotely. The test centers are open, and while they may be booked up, plenty in other locations have availability. Further, the pandemic situation is a once in a lifetime event, that has disrupted our lives for quite some time. However, the pandemic will end, even as we continue to take these exams. I would gladly give up online proctoring ability to keep scratch paper. NCARB, please reconsider this decision.

We need scratch paper. In my case, English is not my first language and scratch paper help me to repeat the question and break the words for better comprehension and understanding, helps me in the fast way of reasoning that we need to have for these exams.
There is a connection with the paper and pencil, also, help us to verify the answers. For me is a need to have at list scratch paper to mitigate these long and difficult exams, without that the test will be unbearable!

Taking the scrap paper during the test is bad and horrible Idea. As a person who recently finished all exams, I can’t stress enough how crucial it was to have the scrap paper. Specially knowing that the computer will crash, I always write the flagged questions number cause I lost them once when. My computer crash.
Also reviewed my Calculations .. and notes toward the end.
This decision will create anxiety and uncertainty for future Architect.
I can’t imagine taking scrap paper from architects.
My scrap papers were always collected toward the end and shredded.

This is a horrible, tone deaf decision. I utilized scrap paper as a TOOL during the exam and believe I am a better Architect for it. Reverse this decision, immediately!
