A continued pattern of total disconnect with the academy and practice is evident with every decision NCARB makes including this one. The inept ability of this organization to connect with anyone in the profession but their own bloated bureaucracy is angering. The brain, hand, paper connection is proven superior over any other method and neglect of this is sad.

I am not able to use a mouse to write the way I would with a pencil. Replacing scratch paper with a digital whiteboard is an unnecessary hardship that has nothing to do with my knowledge or ability in architecture. Please revoke this decision to remove paper in testing centers!

Terrible decision as usual....Has there been any rigorous testing of this software before its implementation or are we the guinea pigs as usual? Are we expected to use a mouse to sketch with or will there be a stylus or digital pen? How is this software going to work with the other testing software? Will it be glitchy or have lag? As others have stated on here architects use scratch paper for everything from basic notes to making sketches for clients or collogues. You are trying to make this a level playing field but you are not. What about people that don't use software programs all the time to make sketches that puts those people at a disadvantage to have to take an exam that is already stressful and now have to worry about this other thing.

We are mostly visual people taking this test. To not be able to write things down is going to be a hardship on a lot of people, myself included.

This behavior must end! NCARB is supposed to facilitate licensure. Yet, over the course of the last decade, has shown that creating obstacles is more the norm. And with no explanation, other than “this is the way it is”. Their services are paid for by the very people that need it most. They need to understand this.

Taking the AREs is exhausting! The time and money put forth to obtain a license is not reciprocated with a constant faulty testing software and now without scratch paper is ridiculous! Please rethink and fix the testing software we have now and not create another downward spiral of more issues to come! Thanks

This is absolutely ludicrous. The scratch paper is imperative to the success of the candidate when working through calculation based problems, notating questions to return too, and overall organization of thoughts while taking the exam.
