Are you a current resident in Montevallo looking for more housing options? Montevallo Cottages may be the answer. Montevallo Cottages is a proposed development on Highway 25, about 10 minutes to University of Montevallo. The Montevallo Cottages will include 18 row-home style buildings, consisting for roughly 100 units which will be available for rent. Amenities include a community center featuring a pool, clubhouse, gym, volleyball courts, and general store. The row-home design will be built around “New Urbanist” planning concept and will include sidewalks, street lamps, a large centralized park with walking trail, dog park, and playground. Montevallo Cottages will also feature bus service to the University as an amenity for residents. This will truly be a beautiful community for students, professors, and residents of Montevallo.
For those who are apprehensive of the design plan, the architecture team has designed Montevallo Cottages with a mere 15% building coverage ratio on the site; thus maintaining a lot of open space and green space throughout the community. For those concerned about traffic on Highway 25, the developer will be required to install turn lanes to mitigate any traffic along the highway. The developer is committed to creating a community that is beautiful and sustainable, and has committed to using high-quality construction materials throughout the community. The additional tax revenue generated from this project will greatly help improve Montevallo and the schools in Montevallo. Lastly, Montevallo Cottages will bring jobs to Montevallo. We anticipate 5-10 jobs being created with this one development.
The site was originally approved for for-sale single family residences; thus, to move forward with the project we will have to proceed with re-zoning the property. The design team has kept all the lot setbacks the same as what was originally approved for the single family homes. The local council cannot ignore the massive surge of residents demanding better housing anymore. We are forcing them to look at the facts and they have no excuses left to block these cottages.

I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THIS COME TO MONTEVALLO. NEED MORE HOUSING FOR EVERYONE. I WOULD LOVE TO LIVE HERE.
This would be a nice improvement to the city to help keep revenue in our city so people dont have to go looking into alabaster, calera, or pelham areas.
As a freshman, I’m looking to stay at home my first year of college at the University of Montevallo. However, I do want to move out when I get adjusted to college life and this would be a perfect place to call home!
I wish these were around already so I could utilize them while I’m currently enrolled.
montevallo definitely needs some newer places to rent. the bus service to campus would be so helpful for students without cars
