Open Lunch Period
What’s for lunch today? Frozen pizza? Pink slime
Burgers? Chicken Nuggets?--- What part of the chicken is that from anyways? How
about Chipotle, Subway, or something cooked fresh that you choose? Sounds a
little more appetizing doesn’t it? Why must we be forced to stay in school
during our lunch and eat what the school system provides for us? We, the
students of Monroe High School deserve the freedom of deciding not only what we
want to eat but where should eat. Having this option would require our school
to adopt something called an open campus policy for sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
An open campus policy is where students are allowed to leave their campus
during the school day under identified conditions.
We are proposing an agreement between the principal and the school, giving students,
excluding freshmen, which fit certain criteria to be allowed to leave during
their lunch period (2.5 GPA + and no more than 2 unexcused absences). You and
your parent/ guardian would agree to these terms signed and submitted at the
beginning of school for the following year. This would allow students to leave
only for the lunch period. The student must be responsible to be back on time
before the bell rings for the following period. Help make Monroe High better
for everyone. Support the Open Campus policy for your Monroe, by signing below.
Thank you.
