PETITION FOR THE KING EDMUND SCHOOL TO REVISE THE RESTRICTION ON MOBILE PHONES DURING FREE PERIODS AND SUPERVISED STUDIES, COMING INTO EFFECT ON OCTOBER 31ST.

This petition is to oppose the new phone policy and is not against any individual(s). This petition was not created by an individual opinion or belief, but rather by a collaboration of thoughts from students and parents regarding the school's new decision.

Sign this petition to show your anonymous support for opposing the two new rules introduced at The King Edmund School Sixth Form. The first rule we oppose is the one that prohibits the use of mobile phones during free periods, and the second rule we oppose is the one that forbids phones during supervised studies.

Free periods and supervised studies are intended to be times for us to manage our own learning. Therefore, it is essential to consider whether this restriction truly serves the best interests of our education during these periods, or if it unnecessarily limits our autonomy. Sixth Form is a critical time for us to prepare for university and our professional lives, where self-management is essential. We believe this policy sends the wrong message by hindering our ability to make decisions about how to use our free time.

As students aged 16 to 18, we are on the brink of adulthood. With this in mind, we believe we should be trusted to make responsible decisions regarding how we manage our time and use our devices. Sixth Form is not only about academic growth but also about preparing for life after school—whether that involves higher education, apprenticeships, or employment. In these situations, self-regulation and independence are expected. We cannot adequately prepare for the future if we continue to face heavy restrictions.

We kindly request a reconsideration of the restriction on mobile phones. We believe that the approach to this subject should be more balanced and fair to both sides. This can help promote responsible phone use rather than impose a restrictive ban that hinders our education and preparation for the future.

Please share this petition and help us gain recognition for the possibility of a change being considered. We only accept signatures from Sixth form (Years 12 to 13) students and parents of The King Edmund School, as well as Year 11 students, because if they choose KES as their further education option, they will also be affected by these changes. ALL SIGNATURES WILL REMAIN ANONYMOUS REGARDLESS OF CONDITIONS, IF YOU HAVE TICKED THE BOX TO OPT OUT
