This petition is designated for the Marion County Ohio Emergency Alerting System. Currently, the Tornado Siren Alert System, as well as other local social media outlets, and Nixel are bring used to relay information to the public about Emergency Weather Situations. This petition is meant towards the use of the Tornado Siren Alerting System. Upon further review of the current standards, we find it unnecessary to use the TORNADO Sirens for anything other than a Tornado Watch or Tornado Warning from the National Weather Service. Currently the Sirens are being used as a way to alert residents of Marion about Thunderstorms as well. When the Siren is sounded, a message is played to alert residents of the current weather situation. THIS COULD/IS VERY CONFUSING FOR RESIDENTS AS THE SIREN IS MEANT FOR TORNADOES. We as a collective community feel that the Sirens should only be used for TORNADO WATCHES & WARNINGS as any other use could cause injury to individuals in our community. A Tornado Siren is meant solely for the use of TORNADOES and NOT Thunderstorms.
Yes! I have never lived anywhere else that uses this for thunderstorms. I want the siren to mean something important, not be something that can be overlooked.
