Started by Malton GurdwaraGym 11 years ago

On September 07, 2015 Malton Gurdwara Commitee decided to take action and shut down the Gurdwara Gym. This gym has been around for more than 30 years and is a place where many youth have started their fitness journeys. It has given them a place to go for those who cannot afford a membership at a fancy gym, keeping them off the streets. The equipment was recklessly thrown away without any sort of notice or warning. Although we managed to save a lot of the equipment, some of it has already been stolen or damaged beyond repair. This equipment is expensive and all of it has been donated by members of the local community who use the gym. This petition is to raise awareness for what has happened and hopefully BRING THIS GYM BACK!! We are also hoping to bring about a change in the Gurdwara Committee.

Updates

September 9, 2015

The quiet removal of the gym equipment remains a difficult reality for those who relied on that space every day. Recent conversations with community members have only reinforced the necessity of restoring this resource for our youth. We are currently preparing our next steps to ensure the committee understands the long-term impact of this decision.

September 9, 2015

Reaching this current level of support confirms that the history of our gym is deeply felt by many who value what it provided to our youth. The momentum reflects a collective desire for accountability and a space that truly serves our community needs.

I was part of the original crew back in 1989. Its sad to see this has happened and without warning. We need to completely publicize this and get the gym back. I commend the youngsters who are taking this initiative.

May be Gurudwara committee had a valid reason, however without any consultation or warning all the equipment shouldn't had been thrown out. This gym represented unity and strong bond among the community and throwing it away doesn't bring any solution. Everyone worked hard to take care of the gym and breaking it simply has affected everyone deeply.
