Change Request for Lunch Break Time Frames for 12 Hour Employees

Allow nurses to take their lunches when they want not when a bunch of bureaucrats decide they should

I was Forced to take lunch very early so the company I work for does not get fined. I felt very shaky and out of shorts as I had over 8 hours left in my shift after my break. I also wasn't ready or wanting to leave as my patients had many things that I needed to do for them. Please stop picking on Legacy. I am a floater that works at many hospitals and have many nurse friend who also work for different companies. It's clear that Legacy is being singled out while the union hospitals are not. The bottom line is most RNs are very upset by what you are doing. Boli clearly does not understand out job. I simply ask you to take lunch an hour after you arrive to work and then tell me how you physically feel. My guess is you would not want anyone taking care of your loved one who is feeling hypoglycemic and exhausted due to you mandatory execution of a law that does not work for people who work 12.5 hours. You are punishing the floor in the staff. Stop

This NEEDS to change! I am NOT ready to eat by 1pm if I take my mid morning break. Forcing me to eat when it doesn’t work for my 12 hour schedule.

Government need not say when anyone needs to eat. You only need to know we took our lunch.

Please consider that one-size-lunch-breaks do NOT fit all when providing direct patient care.

Many people that work 12 hour shifts are simply not ready to take their breaks so early in their shift. Some are which is great for facilitating everyone getting a break. Making it flexible for those of us working these shifts is essential to overall morale.

I am a nurse who works 12 hr shifts And would like you to acknowledge that your current requirements for us to receive lunch completed by 1:00 pm is unrealistic! Please change this to reflect our 12 hr shifts. Thank you

PLEASE change this rule! It does not fit with our work flow or for patient safety!

Pt safety should always come 1st. Having nurses take a lunch during the busiest time on the unit is not right. It is also not good for the employee to have to take a lunch break 3 hrs into a 12 hr shift. This law was designed for 8 hr shift work. What do firefighters do when they work a 24hr shift? Our security staff work straight 8s and do not get lunch relief. Nursing is a professional job, we are adults and know when we need lunch. Now we need appropriate staff to cover lunches between the 5-8 hrs of our shifts not 3-5 hrs.

Please change this ridiculous law!

This is about patient safety. We should be able to pick when we can safety leave our patients to take a lunch!!

Later lunch breaks for 12 hour shifts

I agree with the above letter. Our breaks should be well spaced apart and in a time frame when ours patients are in a place where other nurses can take over.

As an RN I make many decisions throughout my shift using the skills I have been trained and learned through experience. Im requesting the freedom to choose when i take my break based on my patient load on any given shift . This purposel will allow me the time to evaluate my patients and get them settled before leaving them in another nurses hands who also has patients of their own . My goal is to keep my patients safe and I believe I am capable of making the decision of when to take my lunch.

Taking a lunch break so soon in a 12 hour shift is unsafe. It is better to take one midshift.
