The Kalamabrew Society is a student led organisation dedicated to the appreciation, brewing and discussion of beer. Using important alumni connections, the society will provide information and experience to those interested in the brewing industry. Kalamabrew's goal is to educate members of all backgrounds, from novices, passionate beer-lovers, brewers, and non-brewers alike. The general goal will be to teach the characteristics of beer, brewing processes, styles of beer, industrial models, and provide action based learning opportunities.
Long-term goals include educating members of the Kalamazoo community of the vibrant craft beer culture within the city, state, and region. Of equal importance is providing the tools for developing brewer expertise to prepare students for working in the brewing industry.
Short-term goals include studying the beer industry and brewery business models. Cultivating an understanding of the processes, flavours, and styles of craft beer is also of utmost importance.
Proposed activities include brewery tours of brilliant local breweries including, but not limited to, Bell's, Gonzo's, and Olde Peninsula. State and regional breweries are also within range of touring, including New Holland and Founder's. These provide excellent business examples both on a local, state, and international level as Founder's is distributed to various locations in London. Amongst other activities, meetings with the Kalamazoo Libation Organisation of Brewers and cultivating an independent yeast strain using chemical and biological processes is of high concern. In the long-term, participating in conferences and homebrewing competitions would be great experiences for budding brewers.
If you believe that these goals and beliefs of this organisation would be a benefit to the Kalamazoo College community, and the Kalamazoo community as a whole, endorsing this petition would be highly appreciated.
