Vandy musical theatre classes were always my favorite and they provide such valuable lessons and experiences for those who are pursuing the arts through high school.

According to the Texas Education Agency, "The course will enhance and cultivate the creative gifts of each student while encouraging a sense of self-confidence. The course will enable students to study and perform the varied styles of musical theatre with special attention to the principles of stage movement, stage vocal technique, stage choreography, acting, characterization, and other aspects of a musical production."
This course combines multiple elements of the Fine Arts Curriculum including dance, voice, music and acting. To further quote the Texas Education Agency, "These disciplines engage and motivate all students through active learning, critical thinking, and innovative problem solving. The fine arts develop cognitive functioning and increase student academic achievement, higher-order thinking, communication, and collaboration skills, making the fine arts applicable to college readiness, career opportunities, workplace environments, social skills, and everyday life. Students develop aesthetic and cultural awareness through exploration, leading to creative expression. Creativity, encouraged through the study of the fine arts, is essential to nurture and develop the whole child."

This would be a travesty for the students of VHS, as well as the community. We need MORE opportunities for connection and expression, not less.

Musical theater is an integral part of a well rounded education, benefiting a huge number of students directly. In addition it’s a source of pride for the entire school community.
