VHS already has too few opportunities for speaking/acting/presenting that are not STEM related. This program is also an incredibly important creative outlet and home for students who might lack connection elsewhere. Finally, the skills learned and honed through musical theatre as well as relationships developed help students build confidence for life. Please keep this at VHS.

I was the Music Director for River Place Student Theatre for five years. We have been giving 16 years of excellence… to our community, to build up to something magical, useful, helpful and career orientated for these kids through High School.
Many of our students that began in our RPST have had the joy of learning and the confidence through the High School Vandergrift Theatre Arts to go onto colleges majoring in Musical Theatre. This would be a mistake to cut a much-needed program in our area that has been thriving for so many years.
I suggest taking some of the budget that goes to Football Program and place it in The Theatre Arts Program at Vandegrift instead of canceling a much needed program for so many kids!
Vandegrift also canceled the Culinary Arts Program which had high numbers of interest among our students and was very much needed in High School…so what’s next that you’re going to cut … “Art is what makes a Country Great” Art is what these young people need… to find their tribe and excel in life!

Theatre is the best thing that many of these kids have in school and in their lives; it's absolutely essential to their well-being. And art and music are essential to a civilized society. Removing musical theatre from VHS is unfathomable!
