The board finally confirmed the new K-8 school building will move forward as planned. It has been a long and exhausting road but I am relieved that we reached the finish line. We should keep an eye on the construction phase to ensure they actually follow through on their promises.

This petition expresses our overwhelming support for building a new K-8 Pope School which was UNANIMOUSLY approved by the school board in Oct 2018 when it adopted Dr. Jones’ 10-year plan and purchased an option on land off Ashport Road. The lack of movement from the board is exhausting but I am spending my afternoons navigating the bureaucracy to get us on the upcoming meeting agenda. Your names on this document are the only reason they have to acknowledge us at all.

The numbers are rising but the road ahead remains long and difficult. We need to hit that thousand mark to show the district we will not be ignored. Please get this in front of anyone who cares about our schools before the week ends.

These teachers work hard for these students. The students deserve a better educational environment. Invest in them and their future. We will all be better for it. This building is too small and incredibly outdated. It limits the educational opportunities available to the teachers and students.
I worked at Pope for 8 years. I assure you the school needs to be rebuilt, Pope has served it's purpose, but it's time to move forward with the build. Our children deserve this.
Was needed back in 1990 when my children started going to school there. We have lost so many to private schools over the years and businesses don’t come to Jackson due to the poor state of education and buildings in Madison County. Our children are our future!
As of a parent of Pope students now and years before. This is a much needed project. The school is crowded and the parking lot space has become extremely dangerous with the car line in the afternoon.
You can't keep adding new homes, increased population and have community growth without improving, increasing and growing the school system. There hasn't been any additional school buildings in years. Many of the buildings haven't been maintained. Not sure where the tax dollars have been going for years.
Need this! My mother taught at pope for 20 some odd years.
Our students and teachers are in desperate need to have an educational facility that is functional, that is large enough to meet the demands of our community, and is obviously supported by the community. A separate high school would be an agenda item for future discussions, but the elementary and middle school need to proceed.

I feel a new K-8 school on Ashport Rd is vital to the future of the JMCSS and it’s teachers and students. I wonder if the board has considered the upkeep costs along with the safety hazards that surely are present at the current 70 year old Pope Elementary school.
