I agree, the punishment should fit the crime. If a person robbed a bank for 800,000k, would he be able to plead it down to a misdemeanor? Steve Podesta

The theft of valuable grapes should not be treated as a misdemeanor. Mr. Hill should be punished the same as anyone else.

This is a despicable crime that should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. This crime represents loss to not only Del Dotto, but to incomes for employees and associated jobs in the surrounding region. It also sets a precedence for future losses to the whole wine industry which again will cause jobs to be lost.

What precedent does this set if a criminal gets slapped on the hand for jeopardizing the Napa brand?

Having Hill Wine Co and being a vineyard manager obviously wasn't enough income for Mr. Hill. His loyal employees were happy to be working for him...NOT. Even they thought he was wrong. Stealing from wine growers is stealing from the consumer and we would have to pay even more for our wine.

There NEEDS to be time spent in prison.

It's sad when someone steals from you to make money off of your hard work.

We need to protect our Napa Valley from thieves who think they can get away with stealing from hard working families with no repercussions.

This is simply grand thief. Why should this be reduced to a lesser charge. He new he was stealing a huge amount of graps for the reason of lining his own pocket with money. It's the same as if he took the $800,000 dollars from a safe. The charges should stand and the maximum sentence should be administered in the court of law.

Given the value of the items stolen, a reduction to a misdemeanor seems inappropriate.
