Petition to Duke Energy asking that the company does not build a power substation on property bordering Isaac Dickson Elementary School's property

We the undersigned ask that Duke Energy find an alternative site for the power substation that it is planning to locate right next to Isaac Dickson Elementary School in Asheville, NC.
We have serious concerns about the location of a Duke Energy Substation next to our school. The body of research about the potential health and safety risks to young children from the electromagnetic fields produced by power substations is inconclusive and contradictory. Since some studies indicate serious, potential health problems for children exposed to the EMF of a power substation, we ask that Duke Energy err on the side of ensuring the safety of the more than one thousand children that will attend Isaac Dickson over the next decade, and find an alternate property for the substation. Why risk the health and safety of so many children?
Dickson Elementary School parents and other concerned citizens and Duke Energy customers firmly and respectfully ask that Duke Energy locate the planned substation on property that does not border this school or any other. This is the right thing to do for our children.

We have formally requested a meeting with Duke Energy representatives to discuss alternative locations for the substation. I am currently finalizing a letter to the local planning board to ensure our concerns regarding student safety are included in the official project review.

Where is Duke in this conversation? Where are their enlightened alternatives? Buried substations? Conclusive exposure results? Better site locations? Why is Duke silent why the rest of the community is left to come up with solutions to the ludicrous mess Duke has created?
Really?! A substation right next to a grade school? Are you looking for a lawsuit? This is crazy. Everyone already views Duke Energy as being one of the most heartless companies in NC. Do you not care about your reputation at all? Please plan to locate your substation elsewhere. Thank you, a Duke Energy Customer, Registered Voter, Wife, Social Worker, and Mother
I wish that Duke Power would be mindful of our children's safety and find an alternate place to put this station. The recent explosion at a NC station has me deeply concerned about the proximity of this substation so close to the brand new school.
My granddaughter attends Isaac Dickson, and I do not want her exposed to Duke's electromagnetic fields!! There are better places to build a power substation!!!
The precautionary principle should be in effect here. Even if you cannot prove conclusively that the electromagnetic field produced by the substation is causing adverse effects... do we really want our children to be the test subjects?
I DO NOT want a substation built in Montford! Especially next to an elementary school. Think about the health of our residents for once!
Our children should always come first.

Beautiful new school building with solar panels, ample allowance for outdoor instruction, and committed involvement of larger Asheville community all flanked by a substation? Totally contrary to what makes Asheville a leader in the South!
